Swimming

Swimming is a tough sport. It takes the body moving in just the right way to keep you afloat. Your head is underwater, making breathing work in itself. I have been a swimmer since Sophmore year in high school. I love to swim, I am able to relax and get a good workout in. During my triathlon career I will swim around 2-3 times a week about 3000 meters at a time (just under 2 miles in an hour) and longer when an Ironman is looming. This past Sept, after my last race of the season, I decided to take some time off of swimming. I had not swam since then until Friday. I am trying to do 30 min of cardio a day for 30 days to get re-motivated and on Friday I thought that I was ready to return to the pool for a 30 min swim. Some people think that I am super human, I am not. I felt like a 4 year old flailing around in the pool for 30 min. After 400 yards I felt like I was going to die, winded and sore. I was able to push through 30 min and a mile of swimming, but it was not pretty. I have a renewed respect for the swim :)

Seriously! I tried to start swimming again before I got pregnant with Corinne... I had to stop after my first 100 and rest! Then it was every 50 after that, and I only pushed myself to swim 1000 - pushed myself! When I swam in college, our warmups were around 3000! Those were the days... keep it up girl!

Matt is convinced Bree will be a swimmer. She is long and lean. Hmmm.... I can't imagine being a "pool mom" but I guess we never know what our kids will do!

You're my hero Cari! If I were to join you in the pool I would have to wear a snorkle, fins, and floaties. I think I will have to hire you to be my coach to get my pre-child body back when we come home on furlough. Or can I just have yours?
